Our approach

At Thornwick, a student's safety comes before anything else: before grades, before progress, before results. We take that responsibility seriously and keep the thinking behind it under regular review.

We're a tutoring business, not a school, so we're not legally required to follow the Department for Education's Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. We choose to use it as our benchmark anyway: for how tutors are vetted, how sessions are run, and how we respond if something doesn't feel right.

In practice, that means tutors are properly checked before they ever work with a student, every session is run online with student safety in mind, and there's always a direct, clear way to raise a concern, one we follow up on quickly.

Vetting our tutors

Every tutor at Thornwick, including our founder, holds a valid DBS check before working with a single student. If Thornwick takes on additional tutors in future, each one goes through that same check first, with no exceptions.

How we work with students
